Jade Buddha

Giant Jade Buddha

I first heard about the Jade Buddha coming through Alberta from Mr.Awesome who was reading the article (click the link above to read the article) to me at breakfast one morning. My thoughts were that it was just a statue that they were moving around to promote world peace...I was all up for world peace...but then he read a little more into the article about how it was a 10 ton jade buddha they had found and carved out...and I knew it was going to be beautiful so I wanted to go see it.

It was located basically out in the middle of no where near westlock so we made our way towards westlock last evening and got to the town at around 7:50pm.
The exhibition of the jade buddha closes at 9pm and we had already missed the dinner at 6pm....we circled the town for a good 45 MINUTES!

I was starting to get a little antsy with only 20 minutes left to spare and was even starting to get a little sad.

We finally stopped to ask someone at the gas station about it after putting down the un-reliable gps on my iphone and google maps.... as we took the road we thought would be the right way....we hit a paved road and when we pulled up on the hill....there it was.

It was absolutely beautiful. The jade Buddha itself was gorgeous and the way they arranged the exhibition out in the open where the sun hit it beautifully was even more breath taking.

There were a couple monks at the front and then people sitting behind them on the floor. The monk wearing the toque was the one that was preaching through the speaker system...unfortunately...since it was organized by the vietnamese community...I was un-able to understand what they were saying.

There were also tents that were pithced just a good couple feet behind them and then off to their side....a couple people were sitting under them and they were fenced off with 'caution' tapes...I wasn't really sure why....

There were also a couple tents out back and a gift shop where they were selling the buddha pendants. I'm not entirely sure how much they're selling them for....but I did see someone pen down $108.00....I hope that's not how much they are (O_O)

Otherwise my chances of purchasing one is slim to none....

I have to really thank Mr.Awesome
for taking me out there on his workday just for me to see the Buddha. I know it's not his thing....but I'm so happy that he was able to take me there...regardless whether he would have a good time or not....but because I really wanted to see it

So thank you Mr.Awesome

And I do encourage all of you to go out there and take a look...it's absolutely beautiful...you won't regret it.
